ABOUT Southern Starzz

Wayne Davenport is the founder of Southern Starzz Recruiting Service.  Wayne has had almost a life long love of basketball which led him to become one of the most successful high school basketball coaches in the history of Arkansas high school basketball. Prior to becoming a high school basketball coach, Wayne played college basketball for 4 years at Ouachita Baptist University.  After graduating from college, Wayne accepted his first high school coaching job. During his coaching career that spanned 34 years, Wayne's record was 726 wins and 196 losses, a winning percentage of almost 79%.  His teams won 22 conference championships, went to the state tournament 15 times, advanced to the State finals 4 times and won a State Championship title in 1987.  Wayne retired from coaching in 2000, but his love for and involvement with basketball, particularly women's basketball, has not diminished.

Realizing that there was a need for the evaluation and promotion of high school girls' basketball players, Wayne founded Southern Starzz in 1999.  Wayne's depth of experience in coaching high school basketball for 34 years, together with over 20 years of private instruction in helping both boys and girls develop into better basketball player, has fostered a keen, insightful and accurate ability to assess and evaluate players who are capable of playing college basketball.  Wayne has developed an impeccable reputation among college coaches for providing honest and thorough evaluations of talent as well as a proven ability to find "sleeper" players that many scouts overlook or miss.  Southern Starzz' newsletter has provided a forum for many girls to gain exposure to college scouts, which has directly resulted in many girls earning college scholarships.  Wayne hosts the Southern Starrz Showcase during the spring NCAA evaluation period, and this event is quickly growing into one of the regions largest showcases, with hundreds of scouts in attendance each year.

Wayne's passion for promoting girls' basketball, coupled with the strong relationships he has forged with college coaches to deliver honest and credible evaluations, is contributing to the growth and success of Southern Starzz.   With a mission to find, evaluate and promote girls' basketball players, Southern Starzz leaves no stone unturned in its quest to find the best girls' basketball prospects to honestly and ethically promote to college coaches.  Wayne's goal is to promote girls' basketball so that those young women who have a love and passion for the game have the opportunity to continue their playing career beyond high school and to obtain a college education.
